Intralobar Sequestration of the Lung: A Rare Entity

Background:
Broncho-pulmonary sequestration (BPS) is referred to simply as pulmonary sequestration, is a relatively uncommon congenital anomaly of the lower respiratory tract. It is characterized by aberrant formation of segmental nonfunctional parenchymal lung tissue that has no communication with the tracheo-bronchial tree.
Case Report:
We report a case of 25-year old female who presented with complaints of recurrent fever, cough and expectoration since the age of 8 years. Chest radiography revealed a heterogenous opacity in the right lower zone. On investigation, she was diagnosed as a case of intralobar sequestration of the lung.
Conclusions:
Failure to diagnose and treat this anomaly at the earliest can lead to recurrent infections and occasionally hemoptysis. A high index of clinical suspicion is required to suspect this entity.
